Mini guide

Discover southern Corsica

Between sea and mountains, our corner of Corsica has something for everyone: turquoise beaches, hilltop villages, pine forests and ancient sites. Here are a few of our favourite outings, all easy day trips. And once you’re here, Sandrine will happily share her best addresses.

Right next door

No need to go far: the island’s history begins just above the hamlet.

  1. Castellu d’Araghju

    From the hamlet

Perched on a rocky spur overlooking Araggio, this Bronze Age fortress is one of the most spectacular prehistoric sites in Corsica. A footpath leads up through the maquis to a magnificent view over the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio.

Beaches

Fine sand, coves and crystal-clear water: the island’s most beautiful beaches are less than 40 minutes away.

  1. San Ciprianu & Cala Rossa

    ≈ 20 min

The nearest beaches: wide bays of pale sand and turquoise water in the Bay of Lecci. Perfect for a swim before dinner.

  2. Pinarellu

    ≈ 20 min

A long pine-fringed beach watched over by a Genoese tower on its islet. A postcard setting.

  3. Santa Giulia

    ≈ 25 min

A lagoon-like bay with shallow, crystal-clear water: ideal for families and snorkelling.

  4. Palombaggia

    ≈ 30 min

One of Corsica’s most famous beaches: umbrella pines, red granite rocks and views of the Cerbicale islands.

  5. Rondinara

    ≈ 40 min

An almost enclosed, shell-shaped bay with calm turquoise water. Best discovered early in the morning.

Mountains

Barely have you left the coast before the road climbs towards pine forests and granite peaks.

  1. Lac de l’Ospedale

    ≈ 25 min

In the heart of the Ospedale forest, a mountain lake ringed with pines: a cool haven on the hottest days.

  2. Cascade de Piscia di Gallo

    ≈ 25 min

A lovely walk through the maquis and rocks leads to this waterfall plunging into a narrow gorge. Wear good shoes.

  3. Zonza

    ≈ 40 min

A mountain village in the Alta Rocca, with granite houses, café terraces and views of the Bavella needles.

  4. Col de Bavella

    ≈ 50 min

The famous pink granite needles, laricio pines and hiking trails for every level. One of the island’s most breathtaking landscapes.

Towns & heritage

Citadels, narrow streets and archaeological sites, for days when you swap your swimsuit for a stroll.

  1. Porto-Vecchio

    ≈ 10 min

The Genoese citadel and its lively lanes, the marina, the salt marshes: the “salt city” is delightful in the evening, when the old town comes to life.

  2. Bonifacio

    ≈ 45 min

The upper town perched on white limestone cliffs facing Sardinia. From the harbour, boats leave for the sea caves and the Lavezzi islands.

  3. Cucuruzzu & Capula

    ≈ 1 hr

Near Levie, a walk through an oak forest leads to these two remarkable archaeological sites in the Alta Rocca.

Approximate driving times from Chez Nous, excluding summer traffic.
